¡ãProblems with the Tuba¡ä
The BBb bass is an octave lower than the euphonium and trombone. The sound of notes on the left will be produced even if students do not press the piston.
As it is the lowest range instrument, unlike the trumpet, it is difficult to play low notes, so careful practice is required.
First, practice going down from F to a lower range by listening to the pitch, a semitone and a whole note.
If students find it difficult to play the lower ranges, it may be helpful to repeatedly practice lip slurs of Bb and F to remember the intervals to lowering the chin and opening the mouth.
It's also a great practice to transpose a familiar melody into this range.
After practicing it over and over and being able to play B with confidence, practice going down to a lower harmonic with a lip slur.
4th Piston
Practice the first measure over and over, and once students can play the F to Bb slur, practice the next measure. Make sure to play the first note firmly before going down to the next note.
This range is very difficult, so I think it's enough if students can play it up to the second or third bar.
By practicing by transposing the melody to match the expanded range, students will be able to play more reliably. Take their time and practice until they can play even a semitone lower.
